Battlefield Bad Company 2 (PC)
Battlefield Bad Company 2 (PC)

The 1UP Network previews games with the philosophy that people want to hear our honest opinions on titles before they are released. If a game looks really promising, we'll pass on our excitement. But if a game needs work, we'll let you know. Here are our Battlefield Bad Company 2 PC previews.

EA invites us to its campus to check out two new multiplayer modes: Squad Deathmatch and Conquest.

If you've been closely following Battlefield Bad Company 2, you know that EA has been slowly trickling new multiplayer-centric information since the game's announcement. A few days ago, I got some hands-on time with two new multiplayer modes: Squad Deathmatch and Conquest -- up until this point, I've only seen the Rush multiplayer mode on the Arica Harbour and Port Valdez maps. For a quick recap, there are four playable classes this time: Assault, Recon, Engineer and Medic. Battlefield 2 veterans will be happy with the Medic's return; he still throws down health packs and can still use a defibrillator to both revive allies and kill foes at melee range. The Medic's defibrillator and the Engineer's power drill will now compete for the title of "most humiliating to be killed by."

During our presentation of the two new multiplayer modes on display, associate producer Gordon Van Dyke outlined Bad Company 2's multiplayer suite: Rush (the evolved version of the previous game's Gold Rush that was in the PS3 beta), Squad Deathmatch, Conquest, and a new unannounced mode. Additionally, each of these modes will have a "Hardcore" version, giving us a total of eight in all.

The first mode that I checked out, Squad Deathmatch, isn't necessarily new for FPS fans, but is certainly a welcoming addition to the Bad Company franchise. As expected, it clashes up to four squads (with four players per squad) against each other to in a race to reach 50 kills total. For this session, I got to play the new Laguna Presa map -- a lush environment with plenty of hills divided by shallow streams. You'd think a map like this is ideal for campers, but with the threat of a tank (that can blow up nearly any hiding spot via the destructible terrain), along with three rival teams scouring this medium sized map, you probably won't last long staying in one place.

Of course, that didn't stop me from pleasantly enjoying the Recon class. There are enough trees to hide behind to get at least one-or-two kills in before needing to move to another safe location. As you'd expect from a class-based multiplayer, the team with a varied class makeup tends to be the winner. Initially, my teammates and I were all using the Assault class, and lost repeatedly until we finally broke out and took on various roles. One of my favorite moments was when I set up some cover fire while my teammate ran towards an enemy tank as a distraction. He managed to keep the tank and its driver stationary -- long enough for me to call in a mortar strike. Before everyone knew it, the tank and its occupants were leveled to the ground.

During our session, I felt like I was abusing the mortar strike a little too much (it's reusable after a short refresh period) -- especially in the next mode we tried out. Conquest is the recognizable Battlefield "tickets and capture points" mode. As expected, up to 24 players fight for control over four control points on the map, and try to outlast the opposition as the tickets countdown. In the new map for this session, Panama Canal, two of the capture points are located right out in the open -- I had fun keeping the opposition away from these particular flags by calling in a mortar strike whenever it was available.

On the roof of a particular building, (above point C in the gameplay video), there's a computer set up which allows you to control an unmanned aerial vehicle. When guiding the UAV, the whole user interface changes and the screen goes black-and-white. Although it was my first time controlling the UAV, I found it very easy to maneuver. You're essentially "death with wings" until someone either shoots the UAV-you down or reaches the control station to kill the soldier-you.

For now, Battlefield Bad Company 2 is shaping up to be an enjoyable multiplayer experience, and is sure to appease the PC users with DICE's continued promise of dedicated servers. Now we just need to see the single-player.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Hacked!

From Youtube: Thanks to (AgentGOD) and his great work bringing the developer console back into the PC version, a whole new wave of servers are possible with vast amounts of customisation. Things such as unlimited ammo, massive experience points (10000xp for a single kill), Field of View tweaks, speed and gravity adjustments and so much more! The best bit is, this is all ranked and on IWNet! I guess the game is no longer balanced to fuck the PC gamers over!'

CoD4: Star Wars Mod: Galactic Warfare 0.4 Beta

If you haven't heard yet or played this mod made by the BLACKMONKEYS make sure you do cuz it's fun as hell!! You can play as either a trooper in the Imperial Forces or a soldier in the Rebel Alliance. There is only one map so far in this portion of the beta (Mos Eisley) but there are more maps and weapons coming with future updates.  You can also play any of the stock maps with this mod keeping the weapons, which changes things up a bit! Check out the video of gameplay:

Next Call of Duty in Vietnam?!
Well, we've all been hearing the rumors and so far everything looks like it's pointing to a Call of Duty: Vietnam by Treyarch this coming Fall 2010.

According to PlanetXbox360, they've uncovered some interesting things about the upcoming release.  Apparently the game will focus heavily on the actual story, including the struggles of your squad mates.

Also, just as the WWII based games in the series were modeled after movies such as "Saving Private Ryan", the upcoming release will be based on notable Vietnam era films such as "Platoon", "Full Metal Jacket", and "Apocalypse Now".

Not sure what everyone else thinks about this change in scenery from WWII but I suspect it's welcome; especially considering this era of war has been previously untouched by this series.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2's Initial Reviews

As if it's any surprise, the initial reviews for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 have been quite positive thus far. Game Informer weighs in at a hefty 95% for the title, while IGN had a slightly less exhillerating experience at an 8.9 out of 10. IGN cites a lack of an "epic" feel and "short" single player campaign as being its two major downfalls.

More Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Info
Bad Company 2 is just a few days away from being officially released in North America. Expect tons of additional reviews to start pouring in!

MTV Multiplayer Previews Battlefield 1943

Reminding us that MTV does a lot more then music, the MTV Multiplayer

Check it out:
blog today has released their preview of Battlefield 1943.

Over the last week I’ve been hopping onto my test Xbox 360 to play a round or two of “Battlefield 1943.” Initially I had dismissed the game as a retread of past glories for the franchise. Granted, in a lot of ways it is just “Battlefield 1942,” but lots of little tweaks and touches do wonders to make it a fascinating and enjoyable experience.

Custom Squads
A feature that was added in later “Battlefield” games, but never made it in to “Battlefield 1942.” Joining a squad means you don’t have to listen to the chatter of your 11 other teammates. Instead you can just group with your friends and try to take flags on your own.

Destructible Environments
Finally the ridiculousness of hiding behind a curtain to avoid tank fire is no more. The engine, which also powered “Bad Company,” allows you to blow holes in buildings and other forms of cover. Very handy!

2 New CoD4 Screenshots!

This just in from CharlieOscarDelta: 2 screenshots from Call of Duty 4 that were featured in the GameInformer first-look. These screens have just been released to the Internet for the first time, so if you were unable to get your hands on a copy of the June issue of GameInformer Magazine, you can enjoy this new content!

I think it goes without saying, this game is looking better and better with each new screenshot that is released. I can't wait to get my hands on more, and perhaps some new video content!

There are also some new snippets from the GameInformer exclusive being published on the
CharlieOscarDelta website. Head over there now to check it out.

Keep an eye out for more information as I strive to get our CoDHQ exclusive with the devs!

Whiskey's CoD4 MP Console Preview!

Just a heads-up for you console fans out there. Whiskey from PlanetCoD has posted his MP console preview of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and it is absolutely fantastic. It pretty much hits home in every aspect of the Xbox 360 version of the game we were treated to a few weeks ago in Hollywood, and is a must-read for all Call of Duty fans.

Click here to read it now, and be sure to leave feedback for him! I'd recommend all CoD fans read this one... Just because it's the console version, doesn't change the fact that CoD4 for consoles and CoD4 for PC's are going to be virtually the same game.
